14. Rainy day

I had planned to go for a walk with my friend (and camera) this morning, but the rain was lashing down so heavily that we cancelled.  Instead I took this photo of Anchor Lane through my living room window where it was dry and cosy!

13. Getting ready

This one was taken yesterday morning and shows the mowers in action preparing the Wairds Park caravan site which opens for the season this weekend.

It's a great site - right by the sea and with excellent facilities.  I daresay there will be plenty more photos of this to come over the next few months!

Here's a review I found online:

This is a camp site not to be missed. It has everything you could possibly want for a more than comfortable stay. Excellent prices for tents with plenty of pitches. Courts for badminton, tennis basketball and football as well as the putting green and bowls court.
It has a nice wee shop for the essential snacks with a post office and shop less than a 5 mins walk along the beach road. It also boasts a lovely pub near by offering food and friendly locals to chat to. The site's charm has a lot to do with the lovely people residing in the caravans there who even brought us a fry up in the morning ha ha how lovely!
The beach is on your door step so what else could you possibly need. Free use of showers, toilets, food prep are and laundry room. I could go on and on. ABSOLUTELY GREAT SITE!

12. The daffies are out :)

Here's a photo I took this morning of the daffies at the entrance to the village.  I guess that means that spring has finally arrived.

Just up the coast a wee bit there's a lot of daffodil farming, with field after field of bobbing yellow heads between the main road and the sea - a truly lovely sight for the next few weeks.

11. Tranquil harbour

I took this one yesterday morning when the sun was making the water sparkle beautifully.

If you look at the wall to the right of the harbour entrance you'll see the seagulls that I zoomed in on yesterday - so it wasn't actually as tranquil as it looks because they were squawking away!

10. Noisy seagulls

I wish I could add sound to this photo!  The seagulls are making a real racket this morning!!

9. Ropes

This bollard at the end of the pier is in regular use for tying up fishing boats.

Is 'bollard' the right word?  If there's a special nautical term for these things, please feel free to put me right!

8. View from Herd Crescent

This was taken yesterday morning.  It's looking up the hill towards the trees on the main road - where photo no 4 was taken from.

7. The Ship Hotel

There are two pubs in the village.  The Ship Hotel isn't actually a hotel and it doesn't serve food, but it's an extremely popular place to have a quiet (or not so quiet) drink.  There's a great, friendly, cosy atmosphere in here, especially when the fire's going in the winter.

The back room is used regularly for various meetings and clubs and by local musicians who practice in here.

6. Odyssee Hair Design

This photo is not very well exposed as the sun was streaming in through the windows, but here's the lovely, smiley Daniel making my husband look presentable at Johnshaven's very own Odyssee Hair Design this morning.

5. Twister - with a difference

This photo was taken yesterday in the school playground.  It's a permanent, painted, sea themed version of Twister.  The white table-like thing by the wall has a spinner on it which selects which sea creature you have to put your hand/ foot on!

4. Looking down towards the village

This photo was taken this morning from the top of the hill, looking down from the main coast road (A92) towards the village.  The ploughed field has planning permission for around 65 houses - more about that some other time!

3. Village from the south

This was taken from the same rock as yesterday's photo, but looking in the opposite direction, back towards the village.
The first building on the left is a garage - there can't be many places where you can have your MOT done in such a lovely location!

2. My dream home

This house is at The Narrows, a short 5 minute walk to the south of  the village.  It's in a beautiful, peaceful, scenic spot with a burn running along the side - perfect!

The house sits on what used to be a coastal road to St Cyrus, but years of constant battering by the sea have reduced this to a narrow footpath which is now a favourite route for walkers and joggers.

I took this photo yesterday morning but had to be quick as I was out on the rocks and the tide was coming in pretty quickly.

1. Fresh paint

To start things off, here's a photo I took yesterday.  I was just thinking the other week that the railings could do with a coat of paint, and here's the man from the council doing just that.

This is pretty much the view from my shop, which is how I knew he was there.
